Masoud Pezeshkian[a] (born 29 September 1954) is an Iranian politician and physician who has been serving as the ninth president of Iran since 28 July 2024.[2]
Pezeshkian served as governor of Piranshahr and Naghadeh counties and was elected to the Iranian parliament five times, representing Tabriz, Osku and Azarshahr electoral district.[3][4][5] He was Minister of Health and Medical Education between 2001 and 2005 in the Government of Mohammad Khatami.[6]
He ran in the 2013 presidential election, but withdrew.
He lost the 2021 Iranian presidential election.[7] He won the 2024 presidential election on 5 July in a runoff with 54.76% of the popular vote.[8] He became the President of Iran on 28 July 2024.[9] He is the oldest person to serve in this position, taking office at the age of 69.[10]
